Spring 2025 Newsletter
As we step into the beautiful season of spring, a time of renewal and growth, we pause this week to acknowledge and honor the significance of Bereaved Mother’s Day, which falls on the first Sunday of May. This day offers a gentle acknowledgment of the love, resilience and the deep connection that we bereaved mothers share with their deceased child. Also, this day serves to create a community for all mothers who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of our children.
It’s a day filled with mixed emotions, with the intertwining of both love and heartache. I want to extend my heartfelt love and support to anyone who has endured this unthinkable loss. The focus of my Reiki (Universal Love) practice is to be a source of healing and solace, and I encourage you to take some time to engage in reflection and meditation. Together we can create a sacred space filled with compassion and understanding, for this is ultimately how we hold space for one another.
In connection with this day, I also wish to shine a light on the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). As we navigate our healing journey, it’s imperative to remember the women who have been lost and their families left behind. The pain experienced by these families is a reminder of the urgent need for awareness, action, and support within our communities. I encourage you to learn more about the MMIW in Canada and to attend any vigils or events available in your community. We all play a role in collective healing and have a responsibility to bring attention to this critical women’s issue.
As an ally and advocate for change, I’ll personally be attending a MMIW awareness event at the University of Alberta this coming Monday, May 5 @9am. All are welcome, and details can be found at the bottom of the newsletter.
Also, I’ve included a complimentary link to a guided healing meditation that I wrote a few years ago specifically for bereaved mothers. This meditation is meant to be shared with whoever needs it, so if you are aware of a mother who would benefit from listening to the meditation, please pass it along. This work is humbly offered in memory of my own daughter Sara Kimberlee Scobie.
Spring is a time for renewal and as we honor all mothers on Mother’s Day May 11 let us embrace the spirit of community and support. We are here for one another, offering love, reiki, meditations to all who need it. I welcome all your comments, and if you feel comfortable, invite you to use this space to share your thoughts and memories of your child.
I wish you all the same peace that I wish for myself.
